Sunsets over northern Lake Michigan

How's this for beauty ?!! These were taken up at the very north end of Lake Michigan, just east of the Mackinaw Bridge. Taken about 8:30 - 8:45, whenever it was that the sun was heading down into the sparkling waters below. Seeing God's creation like this is just awesome, quite a week-end.

Please note ---- Our next outing will be September 3rd, the "Lumbermans Monument BBQ Ride". We'll be leaving GR about 7:30 am, heading towards Bridgeport, here we'll hook up with Tri Cities. Should be leaving there about 10:00 am. We'll be shooting up 23 I believe, aiming at Tawas, then head into the Monument Park area. The is really a beautiful area, along the Au Sable River, bring your cameras. Should be back home about 5-6 p.m.
What a fantastic week-end we had, riding up in the U.P. It's always gorgeous, riding along the Lake Superior shoreline - great riding, great friends, great memories.

Do you see what we saw ? What a great image, right up there in the clouds - perfect for a Valkyrie week-end! Do you see it ?? A giant DRAGON HEAD, mouth gaping open, rising up out of the sea - outstanding !!

Then we have Slyk Willy here - our feerless leader - looks like he just saw a ghost, or maybe he was just staring at Scotty and his new squeeze. Anyway you look at it, Bill - you better go see a doctor right away, I'm scared for ya!

And Scotty here, thought he found true love at last, after all these years of keeping himself happy. Only to find out, when he came back up from the waters edge, to find her gone. In his memory, she was so real, so alive, the woman of his dreams. And now, all she is - is this 'image' on the back of a Winnabago, traveling down the road of life without him. Don't lose heart Scotty, there will always be another travel trailer, pop-up camper or fifth wheeler out there searching the countryside for you (or maybe a sewer dumping hole, I'm not sure).

Just coming in from Paducah - here is that famous "Slippery Fingers Scottie" on our woeful 2nd place balloon splash.

And look at his forlorn face 'after the dirty deed was done!'

Oh Well !!! 'Stuff' Happens !

Hey, my friend Danny-boy, sent me this photo of a new fuel gauge, being developed by GM. Just seems to fit the economy we're in right now. Good thing that a Valkyrie get about 35-40 mpg.

Just a quick couple of dates to jot down on your calendar, for future rides.

Aug 19-21st, Bridge Ride, we're already aware of this one.

Sept 3rd - All day ride and outdoor BBQ lunch, over along the Au Sable River, absolutely gorgeous area - BRING YOUR CAMERA. This is the annual "Lumberman's Monument" ride, always a great time. Usually about $5 each, but a all-U-Can-Eat type lunch, plus some raffles and cash drawings.

Sept 17th - another GR Road Ryders 'Dinner Ride' 4 pm - these are always fun.

Oct 8th & 9th - Week End Color Tour Ride, many more details to follow.

later my friends,
Gary

St Ignace - Mackinaw Bridge Ride is COMING !!

Howdy all -
Just a quick reminder of our upcoming week-end ride, Friday the 19th. We will be meeting up at the new Meijer gas station on the new M-6 freeway, at Kalamazoo Avenue, 'just slightly' south of the exit. Plan to LEAVE at 7 a.m., I plan to get there about 5:45 a.m., because there is (I believe) a Bob Evans right in that immediate area - let's do BREAKFAST !!

This is going to be one FANTASTIC RIDE. Beautiful riding up there in the daylight hours, great dinner planned, possibly a nice twilight ride along the lake shore, maybe winning thousands of $$$ at the casino. Saturday, we have a gorgeous ride planned up to Tahquanamon Falls - this will be GREAT !!

Please drop me a note if you have any thoughts or questions at: GR-VRCC@comcast.net

later all,
Gary

Please say "HI" to my brand new grandson Preston. Posted by Picasa

August 6th Dinner Ride & Bridge Ride

I've had a couple of you let me know that you appreciate what we do for this club. One guy actually said that "you are just super, man", so I thought I'd show you a quick picture of me in my working attire, but please keep it quiet - it's just between you & me!

Hey there fellow bikers -
Couple events coming up shortly, that you may want to be participating in.

This coming Saturday, August 6th, we have another one of our great and glorious, world famous "Dinner Rides". These have proven to be a really nice outing, great time and food - and of course as always, super fellowship with our growing number of friends. Please plan to meet up with us (we plan to leave at 4 p.m.) at 3:45 or so, in Johnson Park, just slightly west of Grandville. We'll start out by riding the "BABY DRAGON" (Deal's Gap has nothin' on us), a couple miles thru the hidden parkway - lots of curves and hills, really a lot of fun. Then we'll have an hour and a half ride or so, riding by some very scenic areas and waterways. Plan to eat at Sam's Joint in the Gun Lake area.

Hope many of you can make it, these have been a lot of fun.

Another fun event is coming up, and I've dropped all of you notes on this previously. And that's the annual 'Bridge Ride', up to the straights of Mackinaw. THIS year we are going to be heading up on Friday MORNING, August 19th, will be leaving GR about 7 am (more details will follow). We will meet up with the Tri-Cities chapter, and ride on up from there. Many of us have reservations at the Thunderbird Hotel, but I believe that they are sold out now. If you do not have a room yet, please do so NOW, many places do get filled up for this week-end. We will be staying over Friday, get up and have a big breakfast as all the 1000's of others will be riding into town. We are planning on a good ride Saturday thru the U.P. Will be back in time for the 'light parade', casino time, eating (again, I love it!), talking and laughing. Will head for home Sunday morning. This WILL BE an outstanding time, plan to join us.

If you just happened onto this site, and would like to be regularly notified of upcoming events, please drop me a quick note to: GR-VRCC@comcast.net and give me YOUR name and address, I'll plug you in for future dates.

thanks,
VG (Gary)
